Narrator: The fifties saw the development of modern adult education programs governed by Education Code provisions.

Narrator: Led by the Bureau of Adult Education, 261 high school districts and 45 junior colleges maintained adult programs. By the mid fifties, nearly a million students per year enrolled in classes.
